EMSCULPT Treatment FAQ's
No, there’s no downtime.
You should expect to feel sore in the days following your treatments, just like you do after a strenuous workout, but no one will know about your treatment unless you tell them.
Most patients report seeing changes to their body before they’ve even completed their treatment rounds with EMSCULPT – that’s within the first 2 weeks.
The very best results were proven during the clinical trials to be seen about 4 weeks after the last treatment (which is 6 weeks from the start date, in total).

Patients are generally recommended 4 treatments spread over 2 weeks. Maintenance post-treatments are also recommended at 3 and 6 months.
Results from any sort of muscle gain can be maintained with physical activity, but are not permanent. It is, of course, much easier to maintain these changes than it is to create them. So most patients find these results to be very long-lasting, with the recommended maintenance.
EMSCULPT® is the first FDA-Approved treatment shown to simultaneously build muscle and burn fat during a treatment session without a patient having to exert themselves. This groundbreaking treatment triggers muscle contractions, to build muscle, and burn fat.
EMSCULPT Results is a unique technology that actually helps to build bigger and stronger muscles, while also reducing the layer of excess fat covering these muscles, making for a lean, athletic result. If you’ve been struggling to see tone and definition from your workouts but are already in pretty good shape, this is the procedure for you!
Another interesting property of this treatment is its ability to actually improve diastasis recti, without surgery. EMSCULPT is completely non-invasive, meaning there’s no needles, no surgery, no numbing, and no downtime. This makes it the perfect treatment for busy moms who are suffering from abdominal muscle separation, as well as athletes who don’t want to take time off from training to have a procedure. This process improves core body strength to help your abdomen and low back become stronger.
EMSCULPT is presently FDA-approved for treating the stomach, the flanks or sides, and buttocks. EMSCULPT has been proven to be most effective for these treatment areas currently; however, more treatment areas are being researched in order to offer a more complete body solution.
EMSCULPT directs highly-focused electromagnetic energy to the target area, which forces muscles to contract in a way that is not possible through exercise alone (20,000 contractions in 30 minutes). Due to these contractions, the muscle then reconstructs itself, and the fat in the targeted area also begins to melt away more easily. EMSCULPT can be used to treat the buttocks and abdomen to reduce fat composition while improving overall muscle tone.
EMSCULPT has been proven effective through seven independent, multi-center studies. These studies have shown that the average increase of muscle mass is 16%, the average fat reduction is 19% and the average patient satisfaction is 96% when it comes to the EMSCULPT treatment. EMSCULPT is incredibly effective and results can be maintained with a proper diet and regular exercise. Patients can also do “touch-up” treatments.
Results from a Non-surgical butt lift are long-lasting. However, weight fluctuations, aging, and pregnancy can all take a toll on the body and may alter the results of your buttock lift. The best way to maintain long-term results is to maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle. Results from any sort of muscle toning or building treatment can be maintained with regular exercise, but it is, of course, much easier to maintain these drastic changes.
Butt lifting and building procedures are being talked about everywhere right now, but many women don’t realize that they don’t actually want a bigger butt; they just want a firmer, lifted and more toned butt. Just 1 EMSCULPT treatment is the equivalent of doing 20,000 squats, which as we know is considered to be the best exercise to do for building a perkier sculpted butt.
EMSCULPT is currently FDA-Approved for use on the abdomen (belly), flanks (love handles), and butt. These are the treatment areas which EMSCULPT has been proven to be most effective for currently. EMSCULPT can help to build muscle and burn belly fat simultaneously. Using highly-focused electromagnetic energy, EMSCULPT causes targeted muscles to contract 20,000 times in just 30 minutes. Not only does this strengthen the muscles, but it also speeds up metabolism for quicker fat loss.
COOLSCULPTING vs EMSCULPT FAQ's
Thanks to improving technology, non-surgical and minimally invasive treatments have come a long way in the last decade; reducing downtime and providing impactful results. Non-surgical body sculpting is no different and shows no signs of slowing down, now that more and more manufacturers in the aesthetic space are releasing their own versions of fat-melting, and fat-freezing solutions. While all not all are suited for everyone, these treatments have been proven effective for the right candidates.
However, sifting through the differences between treatments can be difficult so that’s why we did that for you. Keep reading to learn the difference between CoolSculpting and EMSCULPT.
This one is a tie! Both treatment systems are FDA-approved. This means that the FDA deemed both treatments to be safe and effective when performed by a qualified practitioner. While CoolSculpting has been available for over 5 years now, the EMSCULPT system has been studied for over 2 years and was proven to be safe and effective by 7 clinical trials before being FDA approved and released to the public.
EMSCULPT is the only treatment that builds muscle while also reducing fat at the same time. These treatments are 4 times in a span of two weeks. Patients will start to notice results after 3-6 weeks. To maintain optimal results we recommend one maintenance treatment every 3 to 6 months. Since this treatment is so new, information on long term benefits and results are still in progress. EMSCULPT is said to remove up to 19% of fat in the treatment area but also increase muscle mass by 16%.
CoolSculpting is FDA-Approved to remove up to 25% of fat in the treatment area, seeing results after 3-6 weeks post-treatment. What gives CoolSculpting a more competitive edge is it uses multiple handpieces that allows patients to have fat reduction in all sorts of areas, big and small. The fat cells frozen are destroyed and will not return.
Results from these 2 treatments are pretty different, and hard to compare. For those looking for a more contoured or ripped look (and who are already closer to their desired body weight), EMSCULPT is the clear winner.
For those looking to remove “pinch-able” rolls of fat, CoolSculpting is the clear winner. But most patients fall somewhere in between these 2 extremes, and that’s where our office with their Certified Technicians will help you to determine which is the better option.
EMSCULPT is said to be painless and there is no downtime. So far there are no known adverse reactions to the treatment. After treatment, most patients will feel muscle soreness the next day but not as much as you would after a good workout.
CoolSculpting works by killing fat cells with cold temperatures, using a curved suction-based handpiece. Most patients experience numbing during the procedure due to the cold temperatures. Some patients find this numbness during and after treatment uncomfortable but not unbearable.
Each CoolSculpting treatment cycle is 35-45 minutes depending on the size of the handpiece used. Most CoolSculpting patients will require between 2-4 treatments to Treat to Complete. Treatments to the same area can be done approximately 1-3 months apart for best results.
EMSCULPT treatments take approximately 30 minutes and require a minimum of 4 sessions performed 2-3 days apart. One maintenance treatment every 3-6 months.
CoolSculpting, patients will experience some redness and possibly a numbing sensation for a couple of hours to days post-treatment. Patients may find the need to wear nonrestrictive clothing the following week post-treatment.
EMSCULPT, patients may feel muscle soreness similar to post-workout soreness, which could range in intensity depending on the muscle mass of the patient.
CoolSculpting has come out with several different handpieces over the last couple of years to cater to smaller more unique areas of the body. However, all of the handpieces are rounded working on “pinch-able” or “rolls” of fat. In general, CoolSculpting is intended for patients who are within 20-30 pounds of their ideal weight.
EMSCULPT uses flat panels to treat the abdomen or the buttocks. Anyone who wishes to decrease fat and increase muscle mass is a candidate.
Overall, CoolSculpting seems to be the more versatile treatment due to its ability to treat areas all over the body while EMSCULPT only currently treats the abdomen and buttocks (though more treatment areas are on the horizon for FDA-Approval).
